What food goes well with Cabernet Sauvignon?

Our personal food suggestions for Cabernet Sauvignon

Picnic pairings:

Super hard cheeses can also enhance the tannins, thus making your mouth too dry. In general, you can’t go wrong with a semi-hard cheese with some age to it. These cheeses can help enhance the flavour of the wine while balancing out the tannins that will make your mouth feel dry. You’ll want to try and stay away from creamy or soft cheeses, as they can make Cabernet Sauvignon taste a little bitter or metallic.

These two cheeses are our favourite cheeses to pair with a Red Wine Glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, but if you want to experiment with other cheeses, there’s no reason you can’t:

  • Cheddar Cheese - simple, tasty, affordable, right amount of fat, helps bring out some citrus notes in the wine and acts as a great palate cleanser;
  • Gouda - high fat content, brings out fruity notes in the wine while making bolder wines taste a bit lighter.

Table served dishes that go well with Cabernet Sauvignon

  • nearly all red meat, grilled, in sauces or reductions
  • veggie burgers
  • mushroom risotto

Fancy some desert? We absolutely love to snack some dark chocolate next to a good glass of Cabernet Sauvignon!
